Biden's Uncle Frank and the End Times
Mushroom clouds on the horizon with no resistance in sight
“One mark of a second-rate mind is to be always telling stories.” – Jean de la Bruyere
On December 16, 2022, President “Joe” Biden spoke to a group of veterans at the National Guard Reserve Center in New Castle, Delaware. In the course of his remarks, Biden shared a long and convoluted story about his Uncle Frank refusing a belated Purple Heart for his service fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, or Ardennes Offensive, during WW II. Biden’s fable was riddled with lies and inaccuracies woven into a fantastical timeline that couldn’t withstand a moment’s scrutiny.
Even mainstream media outlets friendly to the administration were quick to call out the falsehoods, with FactCheck.org debunking nearly every statement in the speech. While it is good to see normally somnolent US media awaken for a moment to rebut one of the administration’s endless stream of falsehoods, it seems to me that the larger story was ignored.
If one can stand to listen to the video, the most striking thing about it is Mr. Biden’s elegiac, hushed tone sacralization of war. It is beyond mere idealization or hyperbole. It is so detached from reality it is chilling. Here is a brief excerpt from his melodramatic denouement.
This isn’t a “gaffe.” It is insanity in a man who commands the second largest nuclear arsenal on earth and is at war with the nation that commands the largest such arsenal.
The insanity is endemic in this administration and throughout the halls of Congress and the corridors of the Pentagon, with the administration’s costly regime change proxy war against Russia in Ukraine enjoying wide bi-partisan support. Top House Republicans are openly demanding increased military aid for Ukraine.
Over the past year, as of February 21, 2023, total “aid” to Ukraine is estimated at €128 billion, or $138 billion USD. Russia’s annual military spending is projected to reach $84 billion in 2023, a nearly $14 billion increase over 2022, yet still only about 60% of US and NATO spending in Ukraine alone. According to the Kiel Institute’s Ukraine Aid Tracker, the US has provided nearly 53% of total aid to Ukraine to date, and the EU about 40%.
There are no meaningful efforts underway to negotiate a diplomatic end to the Ukraine war, even as the world is marched closer to the nuclear brink daily.
The latest act in this macabre Kabuki theater production was unveiled on Monday, February 20, 2023, when Biden made a heavily scripted “surprise” visit to Ukraine to pledge never ending US support and another half billion in no-strings-attached aid to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The next day, Tuesday, February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened nuclear retaliation against the West and suspended his nation’s participation in the New START nuclear arms treaty negotiated in 2010 by former US President Barack Obama and then Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, the last remaining nuclear arms control agreement between the two countries.
THANATOS ASCENDANT
I first began to sense that nuclear war was approaching inevitability before the February 2022, Russian invasion of Ukraine. Over the past 15 months, starting in December 2021, I have published five articles in which I have tried to probe beneath the toxic flotsam of the daily news to get at the historical and philosphic roots of the lust for nuclear annihilation.
In “Dark Currents of the Pacific,” published Dec. 15, 2021, I said:
The old threat of nuclear war, this time on an even more catastrophic scale, still looms as an expeditious option to end it all.
In both the quest for permanent pandemic and the lust for thermonuclear annihilation, the voices of Thanatos and his murderous sisters the Keres can be heard urging a great cleanse, the illusory Sirens’ song of a new beginning beckoning in the background.
